Science . . . and Singing . . . and Sleeping

We're just finishing up a relatively quiet week. Sam is recovering from a really bad chest and sinus cold. He had a fever off and on for a whole week, but it looks like it's finally done and he is on the road to being healthy again. The good news is that his little airway may actually have grown enough to be done with full blown croup now. We took the doctor up on his offer for a little kicker of medicine just to be sure, but so far, no full middle-of-the-night-croup action for him and the parents. Yay for Sam!

In other non-germy news, this was my Science Fair week at school. In Kindergarten, we get to do a class science project and present it together as a group. Next year, we're on our own and I'm already looking forward to it. My class chose to do an experience about growing crystals. Our hypothesis was that the color of the crystal would change the rate of growth and that the average growth would be 6 days. We were wrong on all points.

But it sure was fun doing the experiments and the presentation! I chose green as my crystal color. Here I am with our science board. I do love science!

We had a quiet weekend to let Sam rest up to be ready for school again this week. We did have some good, quality singing time with mom at the piano.

And we snuck in a great movie with dad. Sam Alert: Howdy everyone. This is how I spent my week - resting, coughing, sneezing, sleeping, and watching movies. I did get to go to mom's office with her for a few hours one day, but other than that, I was pretty much down and out. I'm looking forward to a much better week this week - hope you are all doing well too!

Our Maiden Snow Shoeing Adventure

We've been wanting to do this for a long time and we finally got up the energy (plus some good weather) to try it out . . . and this was really one of our most favorite adventures!

Mom and dad have had their snow shoes for awhile. And then this winter we found kid-sized snow shoes at Costco - some surprisingly good ones. Well we jumped all over that and then spent a few minutes on Friday afternoon trying them out, fitting them to our boots, and getting used the wide-stepping needed to walk in them.

While we were outside, we took advantage of the sun to ride our bikes and scooter.

Sam too? Guess we just weren't in the mood to smile for mom's camera.

But anyway . . . back to our snow shoeing adventure. We decided to take it easy on our first trip out and went up to the Solitude Nordic Center. They have lots of trails along with some groomed, level areas to keep it easy for us little guys. This is our family picture about half way into our hike.

We started out with some easy walking on the flats. Here we are with dad.
We walked on the flats about half way around the lake.Then we got into the hills and the trees. There was some great natural scenery. It didn't matter if we were out in the open or up in the trees - it was such a pretty day.

Sam was pretty darn tired by the end of the hike. Daddy carried him the last few feet.
I spent a good portion of the day down in the snow . . . mostly because I wanted to. Can't blame a guy - snow is fun! And this is the perfect way to end a day of snow shoeing . . . . a homemade lunch in the back of the truck. Mmmm, mmmm, good! We are definitely doing this again, and again, and again. It's just like hiking, except it's in the snow. It was great!

Sam Alert: Hey everybody! I may have little legs but I am a mighty strong snow shoe-er! And I loved every minute of it! Ok, maybe not at the very end when I was exhausted, but still it was a super fun day!Here I am doing some rock climbing in my snow shoes. It was a beautiful day and a great time was had by all of us. Art, Play, and Fun

What a great week! We really accomplished a lot this week and had a lot of fun at the same time.

First up - I started taking an art class this week. And I LOVE IT! When mom picked me up after the first class was over, I told her this was my most favorite day of my life. Have I told you that I want to be an artist when I grow up? That and a scientist (mom says I can be an artist and something else at the same time). Here are my art pieces from class - a mouse and a frog sitting on a toadstool.

Heart Attacks - our family has been doing a heart attack this month. We write a heart for someone in our family every night and tell them something that we love about them. Our kitchen is covered in hearts.Next up - play - - we've had a couple of really warm spring-like days this week. And you know what that means - - time to play outside. Our sandbox got some use on Friday afternoon. Swinging, digging, and sliding - good times.Sam spent some quality time golfing in the backyard. That boy does love to golf.More play - trains. Daddy spent the good part of an afternoon building a huge train track for us. He used nearly all our tracks and all of our stations. And fun - it's a good thing Sam practiced up on his golfing because mom and dad took us out mini golfing on Saturday afternoon. I like to race-golf! Mom and dad kept after me to slow down - - I guess it's fun that way too.We played the Haunted House course this time. Every time we drive by the golf course, we ask to do this one. Wish granted!
It was a really, really great afternoon - capped off with a trip to get ice cream!The worst part of any mini golf game is the 18th hole where you hit your ball and it never comes back. Look carefully at the picture - yes that's Sam. He crawled right up inside the sphinx - - and guess what he came out with? That's right, a new ball. Sneaky Sam!Sam Alert: Hey everyone. Two - playing some golf. LOVE, love, LOVE me some golf! Our school is right next to a golf course and I ask every day if I can go golfing. I finally got my wish.Three - just a great pic of me. I'm almost always laughing and finding a way to have fun.

Cruising Right Along . . .

How is it possible that it is February all ready? We're getting spring fever in a really bad way - well spring fever along with a few sore throats and runny noses.

We had a few celebrations this week. I got to go to a fun play day on Saturday with some of my guy friends from school. It was lots of fun - we went bowling (I won - no ramp involved, just me and my super strong, bowling-smart arm). We also got to play in the arcade afterwards.

It was also Groundhog Day this week. We did a fun art project with mom.

It was also dad's birthday this week. He is such a great dad to us and we love him very much!
We love him so much that we even helped his aging lungs by helping him blow out his candles. Then - you know what the first Sunday in February is - - - Super Bowl! We had a yummy party over at Uncle Noley & Aunt Christy's house. So much food! And a good game too - go New York! Sam Alert: Hey everyone - I have three fun pictures of me from this week. First up - me doing my homework. I sure do love school! My teachers always tell me that I'm a smarty pants. Second - I stole daddy's tie one evening and wore it around the house. I sure do love ties! Mom says I'll read that sentence in about 15 years and think I was crazy, but for now, I'm all about ties. I even ask if I can wear one to school every morning (like Mason).And third - me snarfing down some dessert during our Super Bowl party. I do love me some dessert! Any dessert! Anything with sugar in/on/around it! Mmmmm, mmmmm, good - plate licking good!
